A vision of 2020 from Razed Roof Theatre Company Razed Roof is an inclusive performance group of people with, and without, Learning Difficulties and Disabilities based in Harlow. Phoenix Creative Director Phil Dale was instrumental in establishing them at Harlow Playhouse where they are still based. We are delighted to announce that following the latest announcements from the government regarding the Coronavirus Lockdown we have been given the green light to return to classes in person at all our theatre school venues from 12th April. From Wednesday 14th April classes will return at the same times in Bishop’s Stortford and Saffron Walden. From Saturday 17th April our classes in Harlow will return. All returns to venues will depend on reaching stage 2 of the government’s plans to ease lockdown.
Phoenix Theatre Group have been engaged by Thurrock Council to design and implement an online project involving 30 young people from the Thurrock area aged between 11 and 18. Creative Director Phil Dale lead a project with the Essex based local authority just before the March 2020 lockdown to involve children in social care in a theatre skills project. The two-day event culminated in a showcase performance at the Thameside Theatre in Grays involving the young people – many of whom who were performing for the first time. Following the Government’s movement of all our current branch regions (Bishop’s Stortford, Harlow, and Saffron Walden) into Tier 4 all branches we will not be able to hold physical classes. Our theatre school is only permitted to run in this way when in tiers 1 – 3. All classes will revert to online classes via Zoom until the restrictions are lifted. The Christmas pantomime which has become regional staple in Hertfordshire may not be as prevalent this year but the staff at All Saints CE Primary and Nursery School were not going to let this Christmas tradition falter without a fight.
