Phoenix Theatre Group have been engaged by Thurrock Council to design and implement an online project involving 30 young people from the Thurrock area aged between 11 and 18. Creative Director Phil Dale lead a project with the Essex based local authority just before the March 2020 lockdown to involve children in social care in a theatre skills project. Following the Government’s movement of all our current branch regions (Bishop’s Stortford, Harlow, and Saffron Walden) into Tier 4 all branches we will not be able to hold physical classes. Our theatre school is only permitted to run in this way when in tiers 1 – 3. All classes will revert to online classes via Zoom until the restrictions are lifted. The Christmas pantomime which has become regional staple in Hertfordshire may not be as prevalent this year but the staff at All Saints CE Primary and Nursery School were not going to let this Christmas tradition falter without a fight. Following the latest announcement from the government regarding a further lockdown to take place between Thursday 5th November and Wednesday 2nd December Phoenix Theatre School classes will revert to online classes via Zoom for the duration of this period to enable us to continue with the progression of our Christmas projects. A fun way of learning names. The group stands in a circle and begins by throwing a beanbag or bouncing a medium-sized ball, such as a children’s football, across the circle from one person to another. Make sure people are ready to throw and ready to catch. Eye contact is important. Now, introduce yourself as you throw or bounce the ball across the circle – “Hi, I’m ______”. Phoenix Theatre Group is delighted to announce that Phoenix Theatre School will return to classes in person from Saturday 12th September. The first classes for our Harlow branch will be on Saturday 12th September and both our Fledglings and our Kidz classes will be held at a brand new venue, St Alban’s Primary School, which is just a stones throw from our previous home at Burnt Mill Academy. Following our statement yesterday regarding the Saffron Hall Showcase which stated that the event would proceed as planned we have a further update this afternoon. We have decided to postpone the showcase due to be held this Sunday at Saffron Hall. We have been monitoring the situation on an hour by hour basis and given there had been a trend towards cancelling large scale events both here in the UK and abroad we feel it is in the best interests of all involved to not hold the showcase as planned.
