Phoenix graduate George Jack this week starts a new journey towards a career in acting. George, 21, begins his studies on the Foundation Course in Acting at The Oxford School of Drama. George is one of our longest standing theatre school students, having been with us since he was four years old. Since graduating from Phoenix in 2016, George has continued to work with Phoenix as one of our assistant tutors in our primary and intermediate sections of the school. Staff and Clowns from Phoenix Theatre School entertained children and adults alike on Saturday 7th August at the National Play Day event in Harlow Town Park. National Play Day is held annually, free to all and we were pleased to give our time to support this important local event. With circus tricks and toys to enjoy, bubbles galore, and our Phoenix Clowns to play with, lots of fun was had by all. This year’s BOOM! students had a fabulous week of circus fun! With a script adapted from the hit musical The Greatest Showman by Phoenix’s Creative Director, Phil Dale, and choreographed by KBD Dance’s principal Katie Barker-Dale, our students acted, danced and sang their way towards their final production of “The Greatest Show! on Friday 23rd August. We were lucky enough to grab tickets for this great production of The Hunt, directed by Rupert Goold and with Phoenix Theatre School student Harrison Houghton cast as Peter. It was a gripping, edge of the seat production, with a very dark story line and many tense moments but you just couldn’t look away. Harrison gave a shining performance as Peter, a young schoolboy who innocently and unwittingly becomes involved in the dark and sinister happenings in his community. This year Phoenix Theatre School will have a float in the Bishop’s Stortford Carnival and early in the new term we will asking for volunteers from our the School to dress as theatre characters for our float. Bishop’s Stortford Carnival is always a lot of fun and ends at Sworder’s Field with a Fun Day for all the family, with a fun fair, stalls, live music, theatrical performances and dance until 5pm. If you would like to take part in the carnival, please keep a look out for our email early next term.
Phoenix Primary Drama student Harrison Houghton has landed a part in The Hunt at the Almeida Theatre, in London’s West End, from June to August 2019. Directed by Rupert Gould and written by David Farr (The Night Manager, Spooks) the play is about the children of a small community in Northern Denmark and Harrison, aged 10, plays a boy called Peter.
